Show Proposals for the 2009 Season

The process for submitting show proposals for the 2009 season is a little different than it has been in the past. We’re trying to make the process easier and encourage more proposals, especially from Producers and Directors who may be new to the STG stage. The submission process is a little less formal than it has been in the past and we’ve added an optional show planning meeting to answer any questions you may have and help you come up with a realistic show budget. We will also try to provide some assistance if needed, to help you find additional people to complete your production team.

The 2009 STG season consists of 4 “Slots” for shows. Each show will run for three weeks, Wednesday through Saturday evenings (and matinees on either Saturday or Sunday, if applicable/desired). For 2009 the STG Board is also considering the possibility of an additional “Holiday” slot during the week between Christmas and New Years.

You are free to propose any show for any slot, but based on experiences from prior seasons, we have found that different types of shows tend to work better in some slots than others.

Slot #1 – June 24th to July 11th
Well known shows typically involving larger casts and younger (school age) actors. Big “Family Oriented” musicals have done very well in this slot.

Slot #2 – July 22nd to August 8th
This is the most flexible slot. There is usually better availability of cast members of all ages including high-school and college students. Popular shows have done well in this slot as well as the slightly more “Avant-Garde Guard” productions.

Slot #3 – August 19th to September 5th

Smaller cast musicals, dramas, or comedies. Typically, young adult cast members (college and high-school students) are difficult to find for this slot due to the start of the fall semester. In past seasons, it has it has proven to be a challenge to be difficult to fully cast shows in this slot in this slot which require a large number of male actors. You may wish to consider a show with a smaller or primarily female cast for this slot.

Slot #4 – September 30th to October 17th

Comedies and popular dramas have worked well in this slot in past seasons. Typically, the shows in this slot have been smaller cast productions geared toward a more mature audience. This slot covers the prime foliage season so the audience tends to include older, more out-of-town visitors who may be looking for a “fun” way to spend an evening while in the area enjoying the fall colors.

Holiday Slot – December 27th to January 1st

This is a potential new slot for STG’s 2009 season. We would like to see a small cast, family oriented, “Seasonal” drama or musical in this slot. Given the busbusynessy-ness of the season, a “concert” version of a musical might be a more manageable production. Since the number of performances for this slot is limited, smaller budget shows would be preferred.

The process and timeline for submitting a show proposal for the 2009 STG season is:
• Come up with an idea for a show and a “Core” production team (if you don’t have all these personnel but are interested in the production, we might be able to help you organize a team)
- Producer, Director, & Music Director (if needed)
Because these core positions are very demanding and critical to the success of any show, each must be a separate person.
