Show Proposals for the 2009 Season
The process for submitting show proposals for the
STG 2009 season is a little different than it has been in the
past. We’re trying to make the process easier and encourage
more proposals, especially from Producers and Directors who may
be new to the STG stage. This year, the submission
process is a little less formal and we’ve added a show planning
meeting to answer any questions you may have about producing a
show for STG or about creating a realistic budget for your proposed
show.
The 2009 STG season consists of 4 “Slots”
for shows. Each show will run for three weeks, Wednesday
through Saturday evenings (and matinees on either Saturday or
Sunday, if applicable/desired). New for the 2009 season,
the STG Board is also considering the possibility of an additional
“Holiday” slot during the week between Christmas and
New Years.
You are free to propose any show for any slot,
but based on experiences from prior seasons, we have found that
different types of shows tend to work better in some slots than
others.
Slot #1 – June 24th to July 11th
Well known shows typically involving larger casts and younger
(school age) actors. Big “Family Oriented”
musicals have done very well in this slot.
Slot #2 – July 22nd to August 8th
This is the most flexible slot. There is usually better
availability of cast members of all ages including high-school
and college students. Popular shows have done well
in this slot as well as the slightly more “Avant-Garde”
productions.
Slot #3 – August 19th to September
5th
Smaller cast musicals, dramas, or comedies. Typically,
young adult cast members (college and high-school students) are
difficult to find for this slot due to the start of the fall semester. In
past seasons, it has proven to be a challenge to fully cast shows
in this slot which require a large number of male actors. You
may wish to consider a show with a smaller or primarily female
cast for this slot.
Slot #4 – September 30th to October
17th
Comedies and popular dramas have worked well in this slot in past
seasons. Typically, the shows in this slot have been
smaller cast productions geared toward a more mature audience.  This
slot covers the prime foliage season so the audience tends to
include older, more out-of-town visitors who may be looking for
a “fun” way to spend an evening while in the area
enjoying the fall colors.
Holiday Slot – December 27th to January
1st
This is a potential new slot for STG’s 2009 season. We would
like to see a small cast, family oriented, “Seasonal”
drama or musical in this slot. Given the busy-ness
of the season, a “concert” version of a musical might
be a more manageable production. Since the number of
performances for this slot is limited, smaller budget shows would
be preferred.
Process and timeline for submitting a proposal for the
2009 STG season
- Come up with an idea for a show and the “Core”
production team of a Producer, Director, & Music Director
(if needed). If you don’t have all these personnel
but are interested in the production, we might be able to help
you organize a team. Because these core positions
are very demanding and critical to the success of any show,
each must be a separate person.
- Call / send email to the Chair of the Show Selection Committee
by June 30th
Include the following (at a minimum)
- Name & Author of the show you are proposing
- Brief description of the show
- Core production team members
- 2009 Season slots you are interested in
- Your contact information (Name, Address,
Email, Phone)
- Attend the show planning meeting (date tbd) to discuss your
ideas for the show. At the show planning meeting
there will be experienced producers and board members on hand
to answer questions and help you create a proposed show budget.
If needed, we may be able to provide some suggestions
to help you find additional production team members (Musicians,
Choreographer, Stage Manager, Lighting, Sets, Sound, Costumes,
Props, etc.) to complete your team.
- Submit your proposed show budget along with a perusal copy
of the script to the Show Selection Committee. (if you don’t
know how to obtain a perusal copy of a script and a score, e-mail
the Chair of the Selection Committee as soon as possible and
we will help you obtain one). If you’re proposing
a musical, you will also need to submit a CD or cassette of
the music from the show.
- Present your show proposal to the STG Board at the Show Selection
meeting. (date tbd)
- The Board will select the best proposals for the available
slots and we’ll let you know the results soon after the
selection meeting.
If you have a great idea for a show, submit a proposal!
We’ll work with you to help make it happen.

We encourage newcomers to the STG stage to submit show proposals.
Many factors influence the show selection including
the other shows proposed, scheduling, casting issues, etc. If
your show is not selected for the 2009 season, we urge you to
resubmit it for the following season. Stowe Theatre guild reserves
the right to accept or reject any proposal submitted, and to solicit
proposals after the June 30th deadline.
Thank you,
The STG Show Selection Committee
