"Careful the path you take . . .Careful the spell you cast . . .
Careful the tale you tell . . .Into the woods ... and home before dark!"

And an enchanting forest it will be. The show will be presented both on and off the stage -- in the round, essentially -- with the audience itself in the midst of the woods and on intimate terms with a wolf. And a Prince (or two). And giants and peasants and Little Red Riding Hood. And, of course, a witch.
We all know what woods can be like. . .especially when they are conceived first by the Brothers Grimm and brought to life in story and song by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. "Into the Woods" won three Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1987, and five Drama Desk Awards -- including Best Musical. When it was revived on Broadway in 2002, it won the Tony for Best Musical Revival.
Why? It has a hauntingly beautiful score. Moments of wisdom and wistfulness and wicked humor. And, yes, revelations that remind us all of what it means to be parents and children, as well as the value of the legacies we leave behind when we make our inevitable exits. Sure, the sources are fairy tales. . .but the story offers a probing, realistic depcition of life's complexities. It is at once one of Broadway's most sophisticated and most playful musicals.
Keep your eyes posted for detailed information about characters and auditions, as well as designer Milford Cushman's remarkable vision for the set -- the world he has designed -- and Andrea Wolga Freeman's extraordinary co
